François is one of the many migrant workers from Canada and Vermont who descend on New York City during the holidays to sell Christmas trees. They sleep in their vans and campers — François’s temporary home is a 1994 Chevy van parked at the curb — and, in the process, become fixtures in their adopted neighborhoods.
