Please join us for our 2nd Annual Community Spiritual Sing on Saturday, February 17th from 2:00PM – 3:30PM at St. George’s Church.

All are welcome to a communal sing of timeless and powerful songs such as “O, Freedom,” “Steal Away,” “Deep River” and many more.

The tradition of singing spirituals at St. George’s began with African-American composer, arranger and baritone Harry Thacker Burleigh (1866-1949), a soloist at St. George’s for over fifty years. His appointment was the “first known instance of an African American being admitted to a vested choir of a white parish.” Burleigh went on to become the first African-American composer acclaimed for his art songs, and solo arrangements of spirituals.
