South Bronx oasis for immigrants.
Many New York City churches today have a special mission and care for immigrants. Their acts of compassion are a modern day version of the lay and pastors welcoming new comers coming out of the 19th Century city and federal and immigration offices. Over the next few weeks, we will post from time to time photos showing the visual richness that is generated from faith-based compassion for immigrants.

We too are deeply moved by the creativity and leadership that many churches and ministries around the city are providing. In many cases it is the periphery, the outsiders, who provide the innovation and social movements that crash into the centers of power, status and wealth that profoundly change the whole society. Jesus the despised Galilean and refugee to Egypt is certainly an exemplar of this social process. The immigrant wave is upping the creative and theological ante here in NYC!
